# Tokens & payments

Token packs, what they unlock, what each feature costs and how payment works.

Tokens pay for the things that cost us the most to make: images, video clips, voice calls and new characters. Chatting itself never uses tokens.

## How tokens work

* New accounts start with **5 free tokens**.
* **Any token purchase unlocks unlimited chat.** After your first pack, you can message as much as you like without spending tokens.
* Tokens **never expire**.
* Your balance is shown at the top of every page. Click it to see what each feature costs.

| Pack       | Tokens | Price             |
| ---------- | ------ | ----------------- |
| Starter    | 100    | $8.99             |
| Value Pack | 400    | $24.99 (save 30%) |

Packs are one-time purchases. There is no subscription, no recurring charge and nothing to cancel.

{% hint style="info" %}
If a clip or a persona image fails to generate, the tokens are refunded automatically.
{% endhint %}

### Voice calls

Voice calls are available once you have bought any token pack. The **first 15 seconds of each call are free**; after that you are billed by the second, at 10 tokens a minute. The call ends on its own if your balance runs out.
