# Multiple chats & archiving

Run several storylines with the same companion, and archive or reset chats.

You can have as many chats with the same companion as you want. Each one is its own storyline, with its own settings.

## Start another chat

Click **New chat** in her profile panel, or the **+** above your chat list. You'll choose the settings, persona and memory for the new chat. See [Chat settings](/help/get-started/chat-settings.md).

Opening a companion from the home page takes you back to your latest chat with her, or starts one if you don't have any yet.

In your chat list, chats with the same companion are grouped together and show how many you have.

{% hint style="info" %}
Want her to remember the same things in every storyline? Put the chats in one [memory group](/help/get-started/memory.md#memory-groups).
{% endhint %}

## Archive a chat

Archiving hides a chat from your list without deleting anything.

* To archive: open the chat's menu and choose **Archive chat**.
* To find it again: use the **Archived** filter in the chat list.
* To bring it back: choose **Unarchive chat**, or **Unarchive** at the top of the chat.

## Reset a chat

**Reset chat** starts the same chat over from her greeting. Your old conversation isn't deleted: it's archived, and the new chat keeps the same settings, persona and memory group.

|                               | Archive | Reset         | New chat            |
| ----------------------------- | ------- | ------------- | ------------------- |
| Keeps the old messages | Yes | Yes, archived | Yes |
| Starts over from the greeting | No | Yes | Yes |
| Keeps your settings | Yes | Yes | You choose new ones |

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://dreamdolls.gitbook.io/help/get-started/multiple-chats.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
