# Voice calls

Call your companion and talk to her in real time.

Call your companion and have a real-time voice conversation, in her own voice.

## Who can call

Voice calls unlock with **any token purchase**. You also need tokens in your balance when you start a call.

## Costs

* The **first 15 seconds** of every call are free.
* After that, calls cost **10 tokens per minute**, billed by the second.
* A call that never connects isn't charged.
* When your balance runs out, the call ends on its own: "You ran out of tokens. Top up to keep talking."

## Make a call

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

### Start the call

In a chat, click the phone icon in the header, or **Call me** in her profile panel.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Allow your microphone

The first time, your browser asks for access to your microphone. Allow it.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Talk

She picks up and you talk normally. You can mute your microphone at any time. Text chat is paused during a call.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Hang up

When you end the call you'll see how long it lasted and what it cost. The call is saved in the chat as **Audio call**.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

## Troubleshooting

| Message                                   | What to do                                                                               |
| ----------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Allow microphone access… | Allow the microphone for dreamdolls.ai in your browser's site settings, then call again. |
| No microphone found…                      | Connect a microphone or headset.                                                         |
| Your microphone is in use by another app… | Close other apps that use the microphone, like video calls. |
| Couldn't connect the call | Wait a moment and try again. |
| The call dropped | Check your connection and call again. |

{% hint style="info" %}
You can only have one call at a time in each chat.
{% endhint %}

## Her voice

Every companion has her own voice. When you [create a character](/help/create/creating-a-character.md) you choose from nine voices, and you can preview each one. In any chat, **Read aloud** plays a message in her voice for free.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://dreamdolls.gitbook.io/help/create/voice-calls.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
